Using a Driving Instructor’s Car for Assessment

Herts Ability understands the importance of a client feeling comfortable and having familiar surroundings for their assessment to enable the best possible outcome to their driving assessment. As such, the Herts Ability Driving Assessors are happy for the client to use their Driving Instructor’s car for the assessment if the following conditions are met.

The Car

  • Any vehicle used for assessment must be fully road legal and have insurance to cover a Driving Mobility Assessment.
  • The Assessor will inspect the car for external damage, tyre wear and working lights before the assessment commences.
  • L plates must be provided and applied where:
  • a) The law requires.
  • b) The Assessors feel it would be appropriate.

The car must have working dual controls. The car must be clean and free of internal clutter.

The car must have sufficient fuel for the duration of the assessment.

Damages

The Driving Assessor will take every precaution to ensure that no damage is caused to the vehicle during the assessment but Herts Ability or its staff cannot be held responsible should any damage occur.

Privacy and Confidentiality

Herts Ability, its clients and its staff have the right to privacy, anonymity, and confidentiality. Therefore, all cameras and recording equipment must be outward facing and not record audio for the duration of the assessment.

Photographs and recordings of any component part of the assessment or the Assessors must not be shared without written permission from the Herts Ability management. This includes but is not limited to, social media.

Accompanying a Client on Assessment

Herts Ability provides two Assessors for every assessment. Therefore, it is not possible or permitted for a Driving Instructor, or any third party, to accompany their customer during the in-car assessment.

Right to Refuse Use of a Driving Instructor’s Car

The Assessors have the right to refuse the use of a Driving Instructor’s car for an assessment. A reason will be given to the client at the time of refusal.
